Dan Burn's journey to the pinnacle of English football has been a testament to resilience and unwavering dedication.
The Newcastle United defender achieved two historic milestones in quick succession, culminating in a dream debut call-up for England.
Carabao Cup Glory Followed by International Recognition
Burn etched his name into Newcastle's history books by scoring the opening goal in their emphatic 2-0 victory over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium.
His towering header was a fitting reward for years of dedicated service to the club.
But within days of celebrating this triumph, Burn received another life-changing call - an invitation to join the England national team for their upcoming World Cup qualifier against Albania.
A Dream Deferred No More
"It was strange," said Burn. "As soon as I left the stadium [on Sunday], my focus completely switched to this. It's been a dream of mine since I was a kid."
Burn, who started his career at Darlington before spells at Yeovil and Wigan, admitted he felt an England call-up had passed him by. "Yeah, I think I have been overlooked, but I understood it," he said. "What Gareth (Southgate) did to bring England from where it was to competing in finals showed that his method was very good."
"But luckily the new manager has taken a chance on me," Burn added with gratitude.
Ambitions Set High: The 2026 World Cup
The defender, known for his physical presence and aerial prowess, is determined to make the most of this opportunity. "I'm trying to take it camp by camp at the minute.
I just want to make a big impression and try and make the next camp," he said.
"But obviously it's every kid's dream to play in a World Cup or even to play for your country, so to know I've got that opportunity, if I take it, it's special."
A New Era Under Tuchel
Burn's call-up comes at an exciting time for the England national team under new manager Thomas Tuchel.
The German tactician is eager to build a squad capable of challenging for major trophies in the years to come.
